A synovial structure located between the deep digital flexor tendon and the flexor surface of the navicular bone within the hoof capsule. Disorders of the navicular bursa, including bursitis, adhesions, and deep digital flexor tendon lesions, are important causes of chronic foot pain and performance-limiting lameness.
Navicular Bursa
-
Foreign Bodies of the Navicular Bursa
Penetrating injuries introducing debris or contaminants into the bursa. Arthroscopic removal is essential to prevent chronic inflammation or infection.
-
Navicular Bursa Cyst-like Lesions
Focal lesions within the bursa or adjacent structures that contribute to pain and dysfunction. Arthroscopic debridement may be indicated.
-
Septic Bursitis of the Navicular Bursa
Infection within the bursa, often secondary to penetrating trauma. Requires urgent surgical lavage and targeted antimicrobial treatment.
