A high-motion, load-bearing joint located between the cannon bone and proximal phalanx that plays a critical role in shock absorption, energy storage, and locomotion. Subjected to substantial forces during athletic activity, the fetlock is commonly affected by osteoarthritis, osteochondral injury, sesamoid pathology, and softtissue injuries.

Fetlock Osteochondrosis Dissecans (OCD) & Osteochondral Fragments
Developmental or stress-related lesions that result in cartilage flap formation or fragment separation. These lesions contribute to inflammation and lameness and are commonly treated arthroscopically.
-
Fetlock Subchondral Bone Cysts (SBCs)
Cyst-like lesions within subchondral bone that may communicate with the joint, leading to chronic pain and lameness. Treatment includes arthroscopic debridement and, in some cases, screw placement to promote healing.

Septic Arthritis of the Fetlock Joint
A severe infection within the joint, often resulting from penetrating injury or hematogenous spread. Prompt surgical lavage and antimicrobial therapy are critical to preserving joint function.
