A fibro-osseous tunnel located on the palmar aspect of the equine carpus that contains the carpal sheath, superficial and deep digital flexor tendons, associated check ligament structures, and the median neurovascular bundle. Disorders of this region include carpal canal syndrome, retinacular restriction, tendon injuries, and osteochondromas. These conditions are important causes of forelimb lameness that often require ultrasonographic evaluation and, in some cases, tenoscopic intervention.

Minimally invasive assessment used to identify and treat lesions such as osteochondromas or exostoses affecting surrounding structures.

Retinacular Restriction of the Carpal Canal
Constrictive pathology of the flexor retinaculum limiting tendon movement and causing pain. Surgical release restores normal function.

Superficial Digital Flexor Tendonitis (SDFT)
Inflammation or degeneration of the tendon within the canal, often associated with overload. Procedures such as superior check ligament desmotomy may be indicated.
